My Story and Background

I first began learning about window and door repair at the age of 17 when I moved to Virginia Beach and went to work at Greenwich Supply Corp in 1974. I was hired to work in the window and door division working for my father who at the time was the manager. The residential home construction was booming at this time. I worked in service and my duties were to repair windows that got broken during shipping or vandalism. I also installed sliding patio doors and entry doors. All the windows and doors I worked on during this time were of aluminum construction which was very popular because of their low cost. After a few years I went to work for a friend that I knew from Greenwich who had started up his own small glass and mirror business that catered to both old and new homes. During the time that I worked for him there were increasing calls for glass replacement from homeowners with seal failed(fogged) insulated glass(double-pane). When I went on these calls to measure the seal failed glass, at least half of the time the customer would tell me stories of how long it took them to finally learn that the double pane glass had to be replaced with a new double pane sealed unit to remedy their fogged up window glass. When they asked friends and neighbors would tell them that they had heard there was a method of sucking the moisture out with a special syringe or that the panes can be separated and cleaned then resealed again. Of course now one knew of where to find the company that did this type of specialty work. After searching long enough they would finally find someone who had also been through the same thing and finally learn the truth or they would finally figure out for them selves by calling a glass company who would explain to them that they needed new glass installed. I also met several customers who were told by crooked window replacement salespeople that they had to have the entire window replaced when in truth only the glass that is fogged needs replacement. A difference of a few hundred dollars in many cases!
So after hearing so many people tell me of their experiences I had a light bulb moment!  I realized that there is a big need for a glass replacement business that address's that specific need (fogged glass replacement). I ran a 16 word ad in a local classified paper that read,"I can replace your fogged window and door glass. To see clear again. call John Dozier (123) 456-7890. The very first week I received 25 calls!
